Winter exercising

We all know that feeling….it’s dark, it’s cold and you just want to curl up on the couch and read your book or watch a movie. The last thing you feel like doing is exercise. But in order to stay healthy, it is important to keep moving, to get the blood circulating and boost your immune system when it needs it the most, during lurgie season. So here’s some ideas on how you can exercise during winter without having to layer up and brace the cold temperatures.

15 Minutes of Sun Salutations:

Pop on the heater, roll out your yoga mat and play some nice music. Doing this simple sun salutation sequence will increase your circulation, increase your flexibility and best of all, lift your mood thanks to the release of serotonin.

YouTube Exercise Videos:

Whether it be pilates, yoga, high-intensity interval training or barre body, you can find tutorials online via Youtube which offer all kinds of sessions for beginners to advanced. And best of all, you can do it from the comfort of your lounge room through your smart TV. I am also a HUGE fan of (which is amazing for all things yoga and well worth the small monthly subscription).

Take the Stairs:

If you have stairs at work or at home, use them! Going up and down the stairs increases your heart rate and gets your blood pumping. Just 10 minutes of walking/running up and down the stairs will warm you up and help tone your legs! Win win! I live in the bush and my driveway is 1km round trip (up a steep hill) so I also take the bins up and down each week, and walk to check my letterbox – such a great workout! 🙂
